Inside Zafiro Palace Andratx

Nestled into the verdant hillside of Mallorca’s western coast, the Zafiro Palace Andratx presents an initial impression of an exclusive retreat for the discerning traveler. Yet, beneath its sophisticated Mediterranean facade, characterized by soaring ceilings, expansive windows framing breathtaking sea and mountain vistas, and a calming palette of sand, stone, and pale wood, lies a resort designed with a keen understanding of the needs of all its guests, particularly families. This dual focus is a deliberate strategy, rooted in the ethos of its family-owned parent company, Zafiro Hotel Group, whose founders once cherished summer holidays in this very region.
The resort’s location in Andratx is strategically significant. Serving as a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tramuntana mountain range, the area draws affluent travelers seeking both tranquility and luxury. Camp de Mar, specifically, has become a favored enclave for those who appreciate its understated elegance over the more ostentatious glamour of nearby Port d’Andratx. Its appeal is further amplified by its reputation as a golfer’s paradise and its possession of a Blue Flag beach, a testament to its commitment to safety and environmental excellence.
The operational calendar of Zafiro Palace Andratx reflects the seasonality of this sought-after destination, with the resort closing its doors from November to February. During peak summer months, such as the author’s visit in August, the resort buzzes with activity. However, the expansive, thoughtfully designed layout effectively mitigates any sense of overcrowding. The author noted that the only instance of palpable occupancy was the brief wait at the live-cooking stations during breakfast at The Market, one of the resort’s five dining establishments. This carefully orchestrated spatial distribution is a cornerstone of Zafiro’s success, enabling the harmonious coexistence of diverse guest experiences across its ten distinct accommodation blocks.

Accommodations: Suites Tailored for Every Traveler
A defining characteristic of Zafiro Palace Andratx is that every accommodation is a suite, totaling 304. These are primarily divided into junior suites and one-bedroom suites, with options for private plunge pools. A single, expansive two-bedroom suite offers unparalleled space, complete with en-suite bathrooms, generous living and dining areas, and a private outdoor terrace with a pool, significantly exceeding the dimensions of the average suite. Even the junior suites are generously appointed, typically featuring a separate sitting area and workspace in addition to the sleeping quarters.
This suite-centric model caters adeptly to a broad spectrum of guests. Families benefit from the additional space, facilitating flexible sleeping arrangements, while couples can indulge in private lounging areas. Zafiro further enhances the guest experience through a highly customizable approach to room selection. Following booking, guests can utilize an interactive map to select their precise suite location for an additional fee, ensuring optimal placement within the resort.
The author and their companion, Lily, stayed in a junior suite within the Zafiro Club Zone. This exclusive area offers access to a private pool and bar, providing a more serene atmosphere compared to the resort’s main public spaces. Their time was largely spent on their balcony, enjoying the Bali bed and private whirlpool, complemented by daily deliveries of fruit and sweets and welcome wine.
Guests within the Zafiro Club Zone also benefit from a dedicated concierge service. The author’s concierge, Laura, was instrumental in arranging spa treatments, securing dinner reservations at two of the resort’s restaurants, and facilitating a rental car for excursions to nearby towns like Valldemossa and Deià, as well as the island’s capital, Palma. Laura’s proactive communication was particularly appreciated when she alerted the guests via WhatsApp to adverse weather conditions that necessitated the cancellation of their scheduled sailing trip on Zafiro’s fully electric and eco-friendly traditional Mallorcan fishing vessel, the llaüt. This timely information allowed them to salvage the afternoon with alternative plans.

For Adult Guests: Suites located in Blocks 6 and 7 are part of the Zafiro Club Zone, which includes exclusive perks such as a complimentary massage, priority restaurant reservations, and premium beverages stocked in the minibar.
For Family Guests: Block 8 is strategically positioned near the kids’ club and family-friendly pool. Ground-floor suites offer direct pool access, while suites with enclosed outdoor areas are ideal for families with young children. For added safety, all rooms featuring private pools are equipped with safety gates. The resort also provides baby cots and high chairs, with cots available for a daily rental fee of four euros.
Culinary Delights: A Gastronomic Journey for All Ages
Zafiro Palace Andratx boasts an impressive array of five restaurants, two bars, and convenient food and drink trucks strategically placed near the pools. The resort’s main restaurant, The Market, offers a substantial buffet breakfast, notable for its made-to-order crepe station, a particular highlight for the author. However, the author’s preferred breakfast experience was at La Veranda, an Italian-inspired restaurant that transforms into a reservation-only à la carte breakfast venue during the day, overlooking the resort’s central pool.
At La Veranda, the author enjoyed an omelet, while Lily opted for eggs Benedict. They shared a decadent three-tiered continental breakfast featuring an assortment of fruits, charcuterie, nuts, jams, and a basket of freshly baked breads and pastries. This elaborate spread is also available as a floating breakfast, delivered to the privacy of one’s own pool.

Dinner options are diverse and cater to varied palates. Tastes & Sushi presents Japanese and Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine, while Caliu Steakhouse specializes in premium cuts like tomahawks for two. Mare Nostrum offers a refined take on Mediterranean haute cuisine. This restaurant exemplifies Zafiro’s inclusive approach, serving sophisticated dishes such as mushroom-stuffed cannelloni with almond béchamel and a chocolate cigar flavored with real Cohiba ash, alongside more conventional children’s fare like chicken fingers and mini pizzas. The resort further accommodates its youngest diners with a dedicated baby menu featuring pureed options.
The flexibility of Zafiro’s dining model extends beyond the variety of venues and dishes. Guests can choose from all-inclusive, half board, or bed and breakfast packages, offering a range of inclusions from breakfast only to comprehensive coverage of all meals and beverages. Marc, the front office manager, indicated that the all-inclusive package is particularly popular with families, while some adult groups prefer the flexibility of dining both on and off the property, or the added benefit of premium alcohol inclusion.
For Adult Dining: The Blue Lounge provides an intimate setting for evening drinks and live music following dinner at any of the on-site restaurants.
For Family Dining: While all five restaurants offer children’s menus, and The Market buffet features low-height serving stations for younger guests, the food trucks proved to be a hit with children. For parents seeking a romantic evening, babysitting services can be arranged.

Amenities: Relaxation and Exploration
Beyond the culinary offerings, the resort’s five communal pools are central to guest activity. The cascading main pool is designed for both family enjoyment and features a swim-up bar catering to adults. The rooftop Sky Pool, offering panoramic landscape views, remained surprisingly uncrowded during the author’s stay. Two of these pools are located at OPAL, the resort’s on-site spa.
The spa facilities, including a Turkish bath and sauna, are accessible to all guests, irrespective of whether they have booked treatments. Despite being in the early stages of pregnancy, the author was able to enjoy a 50-minute calming massage. As Zafiro Club Zone guests, both the author and Lily were also entitled to a complimentary 25-minute massage. The spa menu offers a range of treatments targeting specific needs, from skin rejuvenation and post-sun hydration to circulatory enhancement.
While Zafiro Palace Andratx provides ample on-site activities, it also excels at facilitating exploration of the surrounding area. The local beach is within walking distance, and numerous small coves and charming towns in Andratx are accessible via resort-provided bicycles and electric scooters.
The author’s planned excursion on the llaüt was unfortunately thwarted by windy conditions. However, a scooter tour of Andratx, suggested by Laura, proved to be a memorable highlight. Navigating through neighboring towns and beach-hopping, including a stop at the Beach Club Gran Folies overlooking Cala Llamp, provided an authentic experience of the Mallorcan coast.

Adult Activities: The adults-only Oasis pool offers a tranquil environment throughout the day. An indoor adults-only pool is also available at the spa. For golf enthusiasts, the 18-hole Golf de Andratx, situated adjacent to the resort, offers tee times for booking.
Family Activities: Younger guests can enjoy the shaded baby pool, dedicated game areas, playground, and the supervised kids’ club.
